From Brian: "Cirque is a natural, bowl-shaped hollow formed by glacial ice and granite carved into a mountainside that forms a natural enclosure. Shaped by pressure, time, and movement, it creates a protected space within an otherwise exposed landscape. In Cirque, this geological form becomes a metaphor for refuge — a place held within ice and rock, where containment and shelter coexist with fragility and stillness. Light and shadow define the interior, reinforcing a sense of quiet enclosure and pause.
The paper sculptures in the Refuge Series explore the idea of refuge through organic and constructed forms inspired by both natural landscapes and man-made shelters. Each piece suggests a serene, protective space — a reflection of the calm and safety found in places of retreat."
