One of Grau’s fascinations is with family heirlooms, in particular soft linens, often associated with domestic life. She is drawn by the history and heritage in these materials, the stories they tell. Cherishing these heirlooms and giving them a new life, by incorporating them in her work. Many of the linens are from her own family and others are procured at estate sales. This Invisible Woman is veiled under a crochet bed cover, that signals both to the invisibility aspect of the work, as well as the ancestral heritage, a recurrent theme in Grau’s oeuvre.
