Dieter Kränzlein German, b. 1962

Dieter Kränzlein, born on 8 February 1962 in Stuttgart, Germany, is a renowned sculptor specializing in minimalist stone works that reveal the inherent structures of marble and limestone. After training as a stone sculptor from 1982 to 1985, he apprenticed under Hungarian artist Franz Dakáy from 1985 to 1989, opting for hands-on studio learning over formal academy education. This path shaped his independent practice, which he has pursued since 1989 from his studio in Bietigheim-Bissingen near Stuttgart.

Kränzlein favors Norwegian marble and Mooser limestone for their crystalline qualities, carving rhythmic grids and patterns using tools like the angle grinder to create free-standing sculptures and wall reliefs. His works balance solidity with lightness, modulating light and shadow to evoke movement and meditation, transforming heavy stone into vibrant, delicate forms.

Since the 1990s, he has engaged in sculpture symposia across Germany and Europe, with exhibitions at galleries like Galerie Obrist in Essen, ART FORUM UTE BARTH in Zurich, and Galerie Fenna Wehlau in Munich. His pieces appear regularly at fairs such as art KARLSRUHE, Kunst Zürich, and events in New York, Basel, and Sydney, cementing his international presence.

Kränzlein's sculptures grace public and private collections, including the Landesbank Baden-Württemberg, Städtische Galerie Bietigheim-Bissingen, and the Portland Museum of Art. A member of key artists' associations like the BBK Baden-Württemberg, his career is documented in catalogues such as “Dieter Kränzlein – Skulpturen und Wandarbeiten” (2008).
