Valou Kervyn
Belgian, b. 1973

Born in Brussels on 21 June 1973, Valou Kervyn discovered her passion for drawing and painting at the age of ten, through a weekly art workshop. She has been fascinated ever since by colour combinations, shapes and the emotions they evoke. After her humanities in the arts, she studied graphic design at the École de Recherche Graphique (ERG) and École du 75 in Brussels.
In 2012 she founded an interior design network that brings artists together — a project she still runs today. Valou works from her bright home studio in Brussels and continues to refine her craft through evening illustration courses with artists such as Alain Goffin.
Her paintings, in acrylics on canvas and on Flemish Caravaggio linen, are an expression of the feelings of the moment: rhythmic fields of colour, geometric freedom and superimposed layers. Her work has been described as “colourful rhythms… a space of geometric freedom and superimposed emotions”, and her philosophy echoes Van Gogh: “I dream my painting, and then I paint my dream.”
