De Jonge's work speaks eloquently of a distinct fascination with the interaction between inhabitants of large cities and the intriguing ambiguities of cast shadows depicted in her New York series, but also Paris, Shangai, London and other metropoles.

Her focal point is mostly from above to remain a spectator. She looks for a balance between energy and contemplation, between movement and quietness.

Although the paintings often describe dynamic city scenes, they convey a remarkable sense of calmness. And it is this tension that makes De Jonge’s work unique.

In her series, Shadows on White, she depicts skiers in the Alps seen from underneath the slopes looking up whilst in the her new series, Shadows on Sand, painted from studio in Cadaquès, she shows people on the Spain beaches.
